Overview

OverviewYou’ll enjoy the best of all worlds at this fabulous family villa, perfectly located close to Ispica which is a great starting point for exploring south east Sicily. Within easy reach of the fascinating towns of Ragusa, Modica, Noto and Syracuse, the villa is also just a short drive to some of the region’s top beaches. With a private pool and ample space inside and out, Villa Erika is tailormade for a family holiday in the sun.

The villa overlooks a large walled garden with expansive lawns for the kids to play on, a toddler’s slide and a gorgeous 10m pool flanked by spacious furnished sun terraces. Palm and olive trees provide dappled shade, and several gazebos and an outdoor kitchen with a barbecue make alfresco meals the obvious choice. The main terrace, accessed from the living room, offers another outdoor living space, with a dining table, comfortable lounge-style seating and generous protection from the sun.

The villa is set on two floors, elegantly decorated in neutral, earthy tones, with a relaxed, airy feel to it. On the ground floor, an attractive living room, with sofas and a fireplace, and a separate dining room, together provide abundant communal space. The well-proportioned kitchen has everything you need, from a 5-burner hob, double sink and dishwasher to a kitchen island which doubles up as a breakfast bar.  Glass doors lead from here directly out to the garden.

The four double bedrooms are split over two floors, with the upper floor set in the eaves. The two bedrooms on the ground floor both have ensuite bathrooms while the two on the first floor share a bathroom with a shower. The villa also has an outdoor shower.

Area

Villa Erika is set in a residential area just under 2 miles from the centre of Ispica, an attractive town with several architectural gems, and a good selection of cafes, pizzerias and shops.

If you’re planning on spending days on the beach, there are plenty to choose from. The nearest beach is at Santa Maria del Focallo, a long sandy beach with crystal clear water plus a selection of family-friendly beach clubs and restaurants. If you feel like venturing a little further afield, head for the beaches that fringe the Vendicari Nature Reserve or venture inland for a refreshing dip in the pools at the Cava Grande del Cassibile nature reserve.

Less visited than the other towns of the Val di Noto, Ispica nevertheless boasts some impressive churches and palazzi, many of them constructed from the same attractive honey-hued stone as its neighbours. Highlights include the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore and the stunning semi-circular portico, the Loggiato del Sinatra, in front of the basilica.

For anyone with a passion for ancient history, don’t miss the Cava d’Ispica, an archaeological park set in a limestone gorge a short drive from the modern town. Formerly a Neolithic burial site, the gorge is still home to original cave dwellings and ancient rock-hewn churches and is well worth a visit.
From the villa, it’s a relatively short drive to the UNESCO World Heritage towns of Ragusa, Modica, Noto and Scicli, and to the extraordinary city of Syracuse on the east coast.
