Overview

OverviewWith a pool, table tennis and play area for toddlers, Casa Franchina is perfect for a family. Best of all, you can walk to the beach and to the shops and restaurants in Acquedolci or easily access the motorway which stretches the length of Sicily’s north coast if you want to explore further.

The highlight of the villa for most families is the lovely pool, with its graduated steps at one end. A lawned area beside the pool has table tennis and plenty of space for the children to play, overlooked by a pergola-shaded terrace with a sea-facing dining area, a swing chair and additional seating. Make the most of the Sicilian weather by cooking in the outdoor tiled kitchen corner (equipped with cupboard space, a sink and hob). At the side of the villa, a second lawn has a small play area with two swings for young children.

Inside, the villa is traditionally furnished, with polished terracotta flooring and antique furniture. The ground floor comprises a spacious lounge, dining room and fully-equipped kitchen. The washing machine is in the downstairs bathroom (with shower). There are four bedrooms on the first floor which is accessible either via an internal or external staircase. On this floor, there are two doubles, one with an en suite bathroom (with jacuzzi), a twin room and a single, and one other bathroom.

Area

Situated on the north coast of Sicily, between Cefalù and Capo d’Orlando, the villa is at walking distance to the shops and restaurants at Acquedolci, and the beach (800mt).

Close by, the Nebrodi Mountains provide some of Sicily’s most spectacular landscapes, popular with hikers and foodies (salami, cheese) but also very appealing if you enjoy exploring out-of-the-way villages. San Marco d’Alunzio and San Fratello are well worth visiting – San Fratello has a pretty 11th century Norman church, with cloisters.

Other local towns include Santo Stefano di Camastra, renowned for its colourful ceramics, and Tindari, the site of a former Greek-Roman settlement and the Santuario di Tindari, built to house the much-revered Black Madonna. To the west of Acquedolci, the seaside resort of Cefalù offers an appealing mix of sandy beaches, a UNESCO world heritage site (Norman cathedral) and an attractive historic centre.

For a full day out, boat trips and snorkelling excursions depart from nearby Milazzo to the volcanic Aeolian Islands.

Exceptional customer service
Even before we arrived in Sicily, we found the help and support from the office team exceptional. From the moment we did arrive we were made to feel very welcome. The house was very clean and comfortable, with plenty of towels and bedding and a wonderful, local, welcome hamper. We very much enjoyed the outdoor space-the pool and pool terrace, dining area and outdoor cooking facilities afforded us lots of outdoor time. The table-tennis tournaments will be discussed for many years! The location of the villa is tranquil, with stunning views, but with the benefit of easy access to the motorway, and coast roads to explore more of the island. Acquedolci has all that is needed day to day, and Christina took time to drive us around and show us where to buy provisions, and which were good local restaurants-we are so glad we went to Bar Sport Bistrot, la Cascina and Badda Matri. Pippo and Christina reassured us that they were only ever a quick text away, should anything be needed, and took time to make sure that we were all happily settled in their wonderful villa. Thank you. Exceptional. Clear, helpful communication and very customer -focussed. Thank you. I would not hesitate to book a villa with you again in the future, and shall be recommending you.

Casa Franchina was a fabulous villa with a lovely swimming pool and views. The owners were really helpful and friendly. We caught train to Cefalu which was lovely. Very helpful. We went to a vineyard for a wine tasting that Wish Sicily organised for us. It was a long drive away (took 1.5 hours not 25 mins as suggested), but was very pleasant. All other trips suggested were much too expensive for us.

Arrivederci!!!

Holidaying in Sicily in a beautiful villa
Casa Francina was a beautiful villa, with a wonderful pool, lovely outdoor seating and fantastic outdoor cooking facilities. Inside it had everything you might need. The owners were super-helpful especially as we speak no Italian and organised us a hire car, wood for the pizza oven as well as giving us a lift to and from the supermarket on the first day. The one thing I would mention is that there are a number of articles that say you don’t need a car. I would disagree, although we coped without having a car for the entire week, the trains were infrequent and there are NO buses or taxis. We did hire a car for two days to see Mount Etna and Cap D’Orlando as well as Taomina which was well worth it. Otherwise it was a matter of arranging our trips around the train timings. The local town is very untouristy and everyone is very friendly (even though they have no idea what we’re saying and vice versa). I would recommend this villa. Very helpful but the trios they suggested seemed expensive.

Casa Franchina is a beautiful property with excellent hosts. The Villa is spacious inside and out, with a beautiful pool, BBQ area, shaded dining and TV area (outside) and plenty of garden space. There is a lovely sea view. Our 4 sons loved the table tennis table. There are lots of options for lounging in the sun or shade. The property is clean and secure with plenty of towels and all facilities you could need. We did not have a car and we walked the short walk to town each day for the cafes, restaurants and shops. There are bikes for use by guests. The village is not touristy but has everything you need and is on the train line so we enjoyed a lovely day trip to Cefalu. Pippo could not have been more helpful. There was a lovely set of basic groceries when we arrived, he was on call whenever we had any questions and even organised a lift from the local supermarket with our "big shop". Overall, I highly recommend Casa Franchina for a relaxing villa holiday. Thank you Pippo and family!
